25 young athletes from Exeter Harriers, ranging in age from 9 -14 years, took part in the Devon Athletics Association Sportshall Championship on Sunday 19th November. Exeter, as a team, came 4th overall winning a total of 26 medals!

Of the Club athletes that medalled, the new Devon Champions winning 1st place were Matthew Williams in the U15 Boys Standing Triple Jump and Craig Moncur winning the 2 lap hurdles.  Whilst in Shot Put the club swept the board, across the age groups, with Isabella Peyton Jones winning the U13 Girls, Abbie Freeman winning in the U15 Girls and Craig Moncur winning in the U15 Boys. Craig tested the facilities to the extreme sending the shot into the wall at the far end of the throwing area!

Many other athletes also medalled in more than 1 event;

U10s

Thomas Brown came 3rd in the 1 lap and 2 lap and 2nd in the 1 lap hurdles. Mason Ingledew came 3rd in the Chest push and Ryan Farleigh came 3rd overall in the 1 lap hurdles. In the U11’s Harriet Wragg came 3rd in the Standing Long Jump and 2nd in the 2 lap hurdles. Lucy Massey came 3rd in the Chest Push. Alicia Martin came 2nd in the 2 laps and 3rd in the 2 lap hurdles and Eli Baker-Pike came 3rd in the 4 laps

U13’s also excelled themselves with Amy Jenions coming 3rd in the Standing Long Jump and 2nd in the speed bounce. Charlotte Starr came 2nd in the High Jump and 3rd in shot putt, with Evan Murray coming 3rd in 2 lap hurdles.

It was good to see more U15’s competing at the event, allowing for a girls relay team to compete. In the U15’s Samidi Nanayakkara came 2nd in the Standing Long Jump and 4 laps, Craig Moncur added a 2nd place finish in Standing Triple Jump to his 2 champions medals and Matthew Williams added a 2nd place finish in the Standing Long and again in the High Jump to his 1st place win in the triple jump.

Following this event, many of the winning athletes hope to be selected for the Devon team who will compete at the Regional Championships at Torbay in the New Year.
