EXETER HARRIERS PERFORMING WELL IN JUMPS AND THROWS AT YEOVIL

It was very much a boys’ day out at Yeovil this weekend with a number of male athletes travelling to compete at the Yeovil Olympiads Spring Athletics Festival.

Leon Biaggi U15B jumped 1.76m in the HJ, a new PB, and exceeding JB ESAA Entry Standard of 1.72m ranking him 3rd on the UKA early season rankings. He also secured a PB in the 100m in a time of 12.27. Also jumping well was U17M Max Thomas clearing 1.94m, a new PB and also exceeding IB ESSA Entry Standard of 1.92m.

On the Long Jump Jack Turner U20M placed 1st (6.33m) and Sam Gooding 2nd (6.28m). Also in the sandpit was Matthew Williams, U17M, achieving 2nd place, and SBs, in both the LJ (5.08m) and TJ (11.79m). Turner also secured PBs in the Pole Vault, clearing 3.60m, and Javelin, with a throw of 51.30m. Having just moved up to the U20 age group Turner will be competing in the Decathlon next weekend, at the Somerset Schools Combined Event, and seeking to master 10 events.

The throws competitions saw Josh Tyler U17M secure a PB in the Shot Putt, 14.09m, putting him comfortably over IB ESSA Entry Standard of 13.20m and 5th on the UKA early season rankings. He also came 1st in the hammer (45.43m) and 2nd in the Discus (38.10m). William Saltmarsh U15B who has just moved up an age group came 1st in the Shot Putt, with a throw of 11.13cm.
