FIRST TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETICS CLUB TO ESTABLISH A DOWN’S SPECIFIC COACHING GROUP

posted in: News | 0

Exeter Harriers are the first Track and Field Athletics Club to establish a Down’s Syndrome specific group, now in its 3rd week. This initiative is supported by both England Athletics and the Down’s Syndrome Association to promote more sport and exercise for those with Down’s Syndrome.

Mark Palmer, an existing club member, who has successfully competed for Team GB, at the IAADS (International Athletic Association for Persons with Down Syndrome) European and World Championships, last weekend completed his Assistant Coach course to support the new group. The Harriers have been supported, in this initiative, by 10 young volunteers who are also training to be assistant coaches, giving the group a high athlete to coach ratio. Anyone interested in joining the group should contact the club by emailing welcomedesk@exeterharriers.org.uk
