Jack Turner excelled at the U18 European Champs in Gyor, on 7th & 8th July, with a string of PBs. The 16-year-old started perfectly taking advantage of a strong tailwind throughout the 100m heats. Turner ran a personal best of 11.17 (+3.4) in the fourth heat, taking 823 points.
In the long jump Turner used the favourable tailwind to his advantage exceeding his PB. Turner leapt 6.99m (+4.0) in the final round to earn 811 points. Those tallies left him in 6th on 1634 points.
On the field Turner once again produced a lifetime best in the shot put (5kg). An effort of 13.05m, which was a remarkable improvement by 48cm, moved him to tenth position after three events on 2304 points.
The high jump yielded a 1.94m clearance, slightly below his best, whilst the 400m saw a further PB 50.67.
Day 2 saw 3 more PBs; 110mH 14.07 (+1.6), Pole Vault 3.70m and Javelin (700g) 52,22m. A best of 39.74m was recorded in the discus and his 1500m run 4:46.55.
This string of performances accumulated 7258 points w (7160) placing him 6th overall in the competition and 1st on the UK All Time U18 decathlon rankings. A great birthday present as he will turn 17 later this month.
