Fresh from his Regional Indoor Combined Events silver, 14 year old Exeter Harrier Sam Talbot has gone one better in the Regional U17 Individual Event Championships with two golds. In his specialist event, the 60m hurdles, Talbot found himself once again up against close rival Max Price of Stevenage. Price clocked a fast 8.28 in the heats to Talbot’s 8.45, but with price disqualified in the semi finals Talbot seized the moment and set a new lifetime best of 8.23 to take him comfortably into the final. A fractionally slower time of 8.29 was good enough to take the gold and the Regional title.
Talbot’s second gold came in the shot putt with 10.85. A silver followed in the long jump with a best leap of 5.81, beaten by Patrick Sylla of Bournemouth who broke the Championship record on his way to gold with 6.93. Talbot’s busy day continued with third place in his semi-final of the 60m sprint with a time of 7.37, having clocked 7.29 in the heats.
