Jo Pavey ran a brilliant, gutsy race to win a bronze medal in the 5000 metres at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Against the best in the Commonwealth (including 3 Kenyan athletes and Emelia Gorecka who beat Jo in the European Trials), Jo took in to the field. She went to the front with 800m and injected pace with 800m to go, then 400m to go and both times the other athletes in the group gradually came past her, but she went again each time and finally the group split with 100m to go and Jo sprinted past Margaret Muriukito claim bronze and narrowly miss out on a silver medal.
Quote from Paula Radcliffe on BBC website “That was brilliant. I am so, so pleased for Jo. She already has a Commonwealth silver I’m sure that one will mean the most to her. She worked hard for that. She injected some pace into that race and I’m sure she took a lot of energy from this crowd. They really got behind her. She just loves racing.”
Such a privilege to have her associated with our club.
