Exeter Harriers’ Rebecca Chapman is delighted with her new lifetime best of 6.17 in the long jump at the UK Athletics Jumps Festival at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. “This is the most consistent I’ve ever been, overall I’m really happy. I got to Birmingham and it was pouring with rain so wasn’t the best start,” but Chapman remained positive. “After the warm-up I felt really good and by the time I was due to jump the rain had stopped.” Chapman opened with a superb 5.98 followed by a no-jump. “After that I had the most consistent series ever – 6.04, 6.17, 6.12. I knew I had nothing to lose going into the comp as I was guaranteed six jumps so I could just relax and enjoy it. Overall I’m really happy with the weekend.” Chapman now stands in third place on the National U23 Rankings, with World Indoor Silver Medallist Katerina Johnson-Thompson topping the rankings with 6.92.
