Exeter Harriers’ Rebecca Chapman has returned from the British U23 Championships in Bedford delighted with a gold medal in the long jump. In hot and windy conditions Chapman coped well, particularly responding after her first jump of the competition was called a foul, to take the title with a leap of 5.98. “I’m happy with the result” said Chapman “however I’m disappointed with the distance. Really feel in the shape to jump big, but really happy to put out a distance that on the day couldn’t be beaten.” Having jumped in excess of 6m in the indoor season Chapman has managed over 5.90 five times this outdoor season but has not quite replicated her indoor performances so it is understandable that she is a little frustrated with the distance, but the season is not over yet despite the major domestic championships having now concluded. Chapman will next compete this weekend in the third and final UK Women’s League match in Liverpool.
