The Exeter Harriers’ senior men’s team travelled to Reading for their second National League match with a small team of 11 athletes, resulting in some of the events remaining unfilled.
In the sprints Owen Styler had excellent runs with third in both the A 100 in a new lifetime best of 10.85, and 200 in 22.46, and Jack Bancroft claimed a superb win in the A 1500 in 4:02.98 with Matt Dowell fourth in the B string in 4:15.9. Bancroft also took third in the A 5000 in 15:42.58 with Ollie Berry third in the B string in 16:10.31. Stephen Bailey claimed fifth in the A 400 in 53.74 and the 3000 steeplechase saw Berry in action again, claiming fourth in the A string in 9:56.21 with Marc Smerdon fourth in the B string in 11.27.47 with his first run at this event.
In the field Dave Dawson gained valuable points with second places in the A shot and discus with 14.02 and 42.53 respectively, as well as third in the A hammer with 37.21. Dawson’s shot result was his best in almost three years. Newcomer Jamie Anderson equalled his lifetime best in the high jump to take sixth place in the A string with Josh Tunstall third in both the B high jump with 1.75 and the A triple jump with 12.87.
In the 4×100 relay the Harriers team were fifth and in the 4×400 sixth.
The next Senior League match is at home at Exeter Arena on 11 July.
