Seventeen Exeter Harriers competed for Devon Schools at the English Schools Championships held at Birmingham on 13/14th July 2018 with many achieving placings in the finals.
Most notable was Elliott Moran who gained the qualifying time for the event by just 6/100th of a second, at South West Schools Championships, in June. He was rewarded with a clear win in the senior boys 2000m steeplechase in 6:07.28 a massive personal best, just first year in the age group.
Also medalling at the championships was Katie Chapman in the junior girls 75m hurdles. Katie came 2nd in her heat and semi-final securing silver, in a close fought final, in a national standard time of 11.24s (ns). Katie is also 2nd on the UK rankings. Six other athletes were placed in the top ten in their event. Molly Canham won her inter girls 800m heat and produced a season’s best in the final of 2:11.07(ns). Josh Tyler came 5th in the inter boys shot with a throw of 14.52m (ns). Olivia Dobson came 6th in the senior girls High Jump with 1.72m (ns), just short of her personal best. Sam Gooding came 6th in the senior boys long jump with a 3cm pb jumping 6.63m. Jack Turner, representing Somerset, came 9th in the senior boys high jump, jumping 1.92m, having just come back from Gyor in Hungary where he came 6th in the Decathlon Under 18 European Championships. Jack is now top of the U18 national All time list for Decathlon. Max Thomas came 10th in the inter boys high jump with 1.84m.
