HARRIERS CELEBRATE AWARDS’ NIGHT WITH SPECIAL GUEST JO PAVEY

Jo Pavey, 5 times Olympian, was once again special guest at the club’s Annual Awards Evening, on 26th January, where members were recognised for performances in Track and Field, Cross Country and Sportshall as well as Volunteering.

Vanessa Freeman (South West League & Sportshall Team Manager) and David Phillips (Southern Athletics League and Cross Country Team Manager) compered the event with Jo Pavey presenting the awards;

Athlete of the Year – Jack Turner. 

Jack was competing for GB at The Indoor Combined Events International in Cardiff, over the weekend, and wasn’t able to attend.  So whilst he couldn’t pick up his trophy he did achieve Gold in the U20 Men’s event.  A great start to 2019!  (Images below show Jack being presented with his awards on 28th February,along with a certificate of recognition for his recent International success)

Also attending was Jane Edgecombe who presented a commemorative plaque to Dave Robinson, Club Chairman, in memory of her late husband David.  in 2018 Jane gifted copies of the Track and Field Technical Booklets written by David to the club. She very much hopes that the sharing of David’s coaching expertise and knowledge via the David Edgecombe Coaching Library will provide an invaluable legacy and inspire many future athletes and coaches.

During the evening members enjoyed a buffet prepared by Tony Howard, Catering Manager, and assisted by stalwarts Steve and Sally Palmer.  A raffle was held, with Bob Melhuish winning the star prize, an autographed copy of Jo Pavey’s book “This Mum Runs.” £115.50 was raised for Force Cancer Charity.
