A chilly Sunday morning saw four Exeter Harriers members travel to the beautiful Castle Drogo to compete in the Drogo 10. This is a 9.6 mile race that can only be described as hills, hills and more hills. The race started at the Castle, with runners heading up the driveway for 500m, before descending a steep, narrow trail to the river. The course then wound its way around the Teign Valley with 3 major climbs including one twisting, half mile climb and one from the beautiful Fingle Bridge back to the Castle which seemed to never end. The first 4 miles saw the Exeter trio of Simon Minting, John Terry and James Denne running together at a sensible pace and then to try and pick off runners near the end. Simon duly obliged and ran a strong race with a particular strength being on the tough hills to finish in 9th place in 1.04.34. Next home for the club was John Terry who ran an even paced race and was particularly strong in the second half to finish 15th in 1.05.43. James Denne, who is just returning from injured and was using the race as a training run finished 17th in 1.06.12 with James Haigh 35th in 1.10.55. This was also good enough for second team on the day with a strong Exmouth Harriers team pipping Exeter to the post.
