With 9472 entries, for the English Cross County Association Saucony National Championships, the popularity of running at Parliament Hill, on London’s Hampstead Heath, has never been greater. 16 Harriers made the trip to London, on 24th February, to compete in this iconic event including the infamous uphill start, only the 16th time the race has been staged at this venue since 1950.
Scarlett Livingstone, U13G, ran 12:25 placing her an excellent 7th out of 467 runners. This success is hot on the heels of her recent win at the SW Schools XC in the Minor Girls competition certainly proving she is able to hold her own against her elder brothers.
The U13 Boys continued to perform well with Sam Mills 8th (11:45) Charlie Hague 14th (12:02) Oliver Capps 46th (12:26) Billy Turl 213th (13:34) Thomas Bennett 357th (14.20). This age group saw one of the largest increase in number of entries with 570 runners. The U13B team achieved a tremendous 5th place out of 56 complete teams, based on the performance of the best 4 athletes. They were also thrilled to meet and be photographed with Mahamed Mahamed, an up and coming young runner, who came 1st (31:26) in the Junior Mens Race.
In the U15B event Johnny Livingstone came 14th (15:59) with Rio Turl 152nd (17:37) in a field of 504 runners. The U15G saw Caitin Smith achieve 90th (16:24) position with Samidi Nanayakkara 408th (19:43) with 464 athletes competing.
Elliot Moran completed the course in 45th (21:16) place in the U17m race (356 runners). In the Junior Men’s race Jake Smith continued to perform well finishing 9th (33:56), after last week’s 6th in the BUCS 3000m, and Oliver Caute came 96th (37:06) with a field of 220.
Finally, the men’s race with a massive 2328 runners, saw Callum Crawford finish 297th (46:37), Harry Mills 631st (50:25) and Matthew Prisk 814th (52:15)
