Cardiff was once again the venue for day 2 of The South West Indoor Championships, organised in conjunction with the Welsh Championships, on Saturday 6th January. 520 athletes headed to the National Indoor Athletics Centre amongst them 13 Exeter Harriers gaining 7 medals in both the track and field events.
Isabella Peyton Jones secured Gold in the U13 Girls 1500m, knocking off 18s from her previous years indoor time. She also gained Gold in the Shot Putt with a throw of 7.60m. Multi-talented, U15G, Katie Chapman won Gold in the Shot Putt with a throw of 10.54m and Silver in the 60m, with the 3rd fastest time overall, in a field of 56 athletes and a further Silver in the 60m Hurdles, with the 2nd fastest time overall.
Also with Gold were Jack Bull in the U17 Men 800m, his first ever race at this distance, and although still quite new to Pole Vault, Kurt Gilbert won Gold. In the same age group Tod Gilronan achieved Bronze in the 60m, narrowly missing Silver by 6 one hundredths of a second. Molly Canham competing in the U17 Women’s 1500m won Gold in 4.49.53m, with Samidi Nanayakkara gaining Silver, Samidi also gained 5th in the 800m.
Great results from the other Exeter Harriers competing included;
U15 Girls 60m (with a field of 23):Crystal Woolley 4th, Chloe Harris 7th, Phoebe Simeons 8th, Poppy Hughes 14th and Charlotte Starr 15th.
U15 Girls 60m Hurdles: Chloe Harris 8th.
U15 Girls Shot Putt: Charlotte Starr 10th.
U15 Boys Long Jump: Leon Biaggi 4th, Gus Tiernan 9th.
U15 Boys 60m: Leon Biaggi 11th.
