Two of Exeter Harriers’ top multi-eventers head to Glasgow this weekend for the Schools’ International Athletics Board (SIAB) Indoor International at the Emirates Stadium. Olivia Dobson and Anya Turner both admit to being nervous and at the same time very excited, and with preparations having gone well are confident of a good result.
Dobson will compete for England in the U16 Pentathlon, having won bronze at the English Schools Championships in Bedford in September, and is looking to replicate a stunning array of performances which saw her achieve new lifetime bests in four of the five individual events, including a new championship record in the shot putt, and a new points score PB. “I’d again like to get PBs in all my events, especially the hurdles to get more points leading into the other events, and my focus is to keep a good mindset.”
Turner will be part of the U18 England team, having placed fourth in Bedford, and admits she is looking to keep relaxed and enjoy the occasion. “I have been carrying an on-going knee injury, which has been a struggle at times, but training has been going well and I can feel an improvement.” Both girls see their weakest event as the 800 and a large focus of their training since Bedford has been on endurance.
