WHEN WE MEET
You are very welcome to come and try Exeter Harriers training on a Tuesday, a Thursday or on both evenings. We are a friendly, volunteer run Club. We welcome athletes with a wide range of abilities.
If you are coming for the first time, Juniors should aim to arrive no later than 6:15 and Seniors by 7:00 so that we can welcome you, do the paperwork and set you up with the right group.
Juniors are on the track from 6:30 to 7:30. Seniors are on the track from 7:30. Note that senior athletes must not go on the track until after the juniors have finished at 7:30, not even for warming up (but they can warm up off the track).
Note – the last Tuesday of each month from April to September is our Exeter Evening Open Meeting, so there is no training on those evenings, though you are encouraged to enter. Otherwise, training continues throughout the year apart from a fortnight break over Christmas and New Year.
FIRST STEP TO JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP:
JUNIORS can start when they are 8 years old. They train from 6.30 - 7.30pm, including school holidays. Juniors are generally grouped according to school year and they rotate weekly round endurance running, sprints, long jump, hurdles and throws. This gives a grounding in athletics before they move to the seniors, enabling athletes to specialise or continue to multi-event.
Please contact welcomedesk@exeterharriers.org.uk
and introduce the interested junior by name and age and when they’d like to come. Feel free to ask questions. You will then receive an email, hopefully confirming a space, explanation of temporary membership and a form, plus answers to your questions. Please note that we don't guarantee same day replies to emails.
We offer Temporary Membership for a trial period. Parents of Juniors who are on Temporary Membership must stay in the Arena or clubhouse while their child is training.
FIRST STEP TO SENIOR MEMBERSHIP
SENIOR training groups start between 7:00pm and 7:30pm, depending on the event group, until around 8:45pm. Note that Senior athletes are not allowed on the track until the Juniors finish at 7:30pm. Groups are mixed age and mixed ability. Senior athletes are usually aged around 14 years upwards, depending on individuals. Some of our athletes are social members and others compete nationally and internationally.
Training groups cover sprints, hurdles, endurance, throws, jumps and multi-events. There is a visiting coach for pole vault, so this is not regularly available. Some groups may be full especially from 1st May to 19th June when local, County and Regional English Schools’ Competitions are held. At this time priority is given to current Club members.
Please contact welcomedesk@exeterharriers.org.uk
If you are making contact for yourself please tell us what your athletic interests are, your current age group, when you'd like to come and any questions.
If you're making contact as a parent or carer please tell us the name of the young person, their current age and dob, and their athletic interests.
You will be sent a welcome email, answering queries, hopefully confirming a space, explaining temporary membership and a form. Please note that we don't guarantee same day replies to emails.
We offer Temporary Membership for a trial period. If you are a member of another club and want to join us occasionally, we offer Guest Membership.
